Oh, a new year. It’s the chance for new hopes, dreams and, of course, new trends. From fancy frocks to stylish selections, we’ve got your spring 2020 fashion forecast here, straight from Lisa Krows, our Senior Vice President of Design, Trend and Color.
When it comes to prints, florals will always be a favorite for spring (we know, groundbreaking.) However, in the new year, we’re taking it old school with itty bitty ditsy prints. Originating in the 1960s, ditsy floral prints were a quieter, more fun take on the classic big and bold blooms. We will see them make a comeback in 2020, in a variety of colors and motifs. Other popular prints that will make their way in are dots and dyes. Polka dots, dip dyes and tie-dyes were certainly popular last year and will continue to be big in the new year, taking on bolder and more vibrant hues.
Contrasting elements will be emerging. From bold utility styles to a softer, more feminine flair, fashion is really breaking all boundaries in the new year. Statement sleeves are going to be a very key detail. Balloon sleeves, puff shoulders, bells and flares- the more dramatic, the more exciting! Midi skirts were a fan-favorite in 2019, and believe it or not, are going to be even bigger this spring. Dramatic full skirts, sleek satin silhouettes and everything in between, it’s the perfect mix of cool and chic style.
The motto in 2019 was, “the more colorful, the better”. We saw vibrant neons and pretty pastels all year long, even in the colder months when people typically swap the brightness for subdued neutrals. These color stories will continue in 2020, with neutrals taking a darker, more rich turn and neon pink and orange being the standout shades to watch.
The more the merrier, when it comes to 2020 accessories! Say it loud and say it proud with bold statement earrings that will really make any outfit pop. For a more subtle approach to your everyday jewels, delicate layered necklaces and bangle bracelets are a lovely way to finish off any look. When it comes to textures, take a chance to go au naturel. Natural textures, like raffia and straw, are sure to be trending in bags, hats and shoes. When paired with linen looks, well, you’ll be dressed like a natural beauty.
2020 really is the year of the woman; everything will be getting a little bit more feminine. Important details to note are: smocking, ruffles, tiers, flounces, lace and crochet. The more girly, the better. Even more “edgy” styles, like utility silhouettes, will embrace their femininity in 2020 (pink boiler jumpsuit, anyone?).
