We all know when kids are out of school and summer rolls around, the daunted question begins…”I’m bored mom/dad…what are we going to do today?” Well, we have the perfect summer DIY project that will get all of their creative juices flowing and keep you all looking trendy for summer. And with this ever-so-popular print having a moment in the sun, you may be eager to create your own, as well. Trust us, you’re never too old to tie dye.
With so many different techniques out there, it all depends on how you want yours to look. Here are some fun options for you:
The Spiral Technique: https://www.tiedyeyoursummer.com/Technique/spiral-tie-dye-technique
Pinch fabric at the center of where your spiral will start. Twist until all fabric is in a spiral shape.
Bind spiral with 3 to 4 rubber bands, overlapping rubber bands to create 6 to 8 wedge shapes.
Apply desired colors to wedge shapes. Flip spiraled fabric over and repeat on backside.
Rainbow Tote Bag: https://www.doodlecraftblog.com/2018/06/tie-dye-cotton-tote-bag-party-tie-dye.html
Fold in half and draw half a rainbow on the bag with the marker, the highest part on the folded line.
Gather the bag along the line and tie a zip tie tightly over the marker line. Then add zip ties down the bag until you have tied on 8 zip ties.
Place the bag on the baking rack. Fill the top space with red dye, move onto orange and yellow…Continue with the rest of the rainbow.
Add blue dye to the top and the bottom of the bag. Then turn over and fill the other side with the same colors. Place in a plastic grocery bag and let it sit in the sun for 8 hours. Next, wash it out in the sink, clip the zip ties off and continue washing until the water runs clear. Once complete, immediately wash in the washing machine.
Dry it and enjoy!
